End of Year Student Gift Tags

4.22.2019
I just love sending kids off to summer break with a small toy or activity in their hands! The looks of appreciation and excitement in their eyes always warms my heart :) Maybe it's just me, but I find that it's a really nice, positive way to wrap up the year.

I normally give each kiddo a fun ball and super cute gift tag during the last week of school. The gift tag reads, "Have a BALL this summer!" (get it? a BALL...!) ;) I'll usually buy light-up bouncy balls or inflatable beach balls and they've always been such a hit!
If the balls I find aren't in some sort of packaging  (hello dollar store!), I'll put them inside a plastic treat bag, tie it with ribbon, hole punch my gift tags and thread them through. If the balls already come with a cardboard tag or bag, I'll just staple the gift tag directly to that. Easy-peasy!
Here are my favorite gift tags for my end of year student gifts. I either print the colored ink version on white paper or print the blackline version directly onto colored paper for a BIG pop of color - hello, Astrobrights! Aren't they CUTE?!

These end of year gift tags are ready to download from my Teachers Pay Teachers store. Enjoy!

Happy teaching!❤

Kindergarten and First Grade Easter Centers

4.17.2019
Every Spring our school focuses on Lent and Easter, so over the years I've created and modified numerous resources for the season. I'm going to briefly cover a couple of them here so you can see how they might enhance your literacy center. :)

First off is my Kindergarten Read it, Write it & Wipe it Literacy Center! I designed this center with 3 parts:
  • Solid words for reading, referencing, pocket charts and salt trays
  • Traceable word cards for practice printing
  • Letter boxes to help with appropriate letter formation and spacing

This particular literacy center is very diverse and can be utilized in many ways. No matter how I use it, I always laminate the cards so they are durable....because, you know - #kindergarten. ;)

Next up is my First Grade Easter Math and Literacy Pack! It covers first (and second) grade common-core standards:

  • filling in the missing lowercase and uppercase letters
  • Skip counting by 5's and 10's
  • Adding and subtracting single digits (up to 20)
  • Answering writing prompts to demonstrate knowledge
  • Coloring by sight word and numbers
  • Patterning (both completing and creating)
  • Using nonstandard measurements
  • Coloring

The best thing about this pack (in my opinion) is that it is covers some actual religious material. I know that may sound obvious, but I've found that it's not as common as you'd think! So there are writing prompts about Jesus and Church along with standard Easter themed math and language worksheets :)

If you have any of these sets (or wish to get them) please let me know what grade you teach and which one you'd enjoy most! :)

Happy Easter! 🐰🐣

Back to School Certificates {Printables}

8.28.2016
Where I live, school bells will soon be ringing and children will once again be back to the grind. My older kids are excited to go to school where they can play their with friends, but teachers know that not every child LOVES going back to school. And that's okay. But with some understanding, empathy and a little TLC we can help make it a better transition for them. That's one of the reasons I am such a big fan of Back to School Keepsakes

Above is a sample of my Welcome to 1st Grade Certificates, where I welcome each student to my class with a little message. I always attach a small gift to the certificates, usually a funky pencil.

To dress it up, I just hole punch the certificate, loop a ribbon through and tie a pencil to it. Voila! A heartfelt welcome present for each student on their first day with you!

I also have Back to School printables for other grades, including ones that say "Grade 1, Grade 2, etc.) as well as lovely "First Day of ________ grade" self-portrait and journal pages.  There's so much to do in the first week of school but aside from teaching our routines and transitions, I always focus on making each child comfortable and welcome. Luckily these printables and exercises are perfect for that!

Pretty fun, right?!

Product Details:

► In color and black and white versions

► Includes 2 certificates per page

► Print the page you need, add your student's name, then sign and date it

► Attach a little candy or pencil to each certificate for an additional treat

What a wonderful keepsake for any child to have!

Summer Emergent Reader #Printable #Homeschool

7.18.2016
Okay, I am a self-professed obsessed Emergent Reader teacher. It's no secret - but really, why wouldn't I be?  Anyone working with pre-readers will surely agree with me - emergent readers are one of the best tools to get children familiar with print (letters and words) and their associated pictures!

I've recently created a brand new Summer Emergent Reader entitled "Yellow Sun, Yellow Sun, What Do You See?". I'd love to give you a quick snapshot of it because it can be downloaded and printed in just a few seconds! Here's my product cover page in case you are looking for it in my Teachers Pay Teachers Store:

Source
The format as you may have guessed follows the flow of "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" and comes across as very familiar to children. This reader has 12 half-pages and children are invited to color the pages and if developmentally appropriate, order and bind their own pages (they are numbered for easy assembly).
Source
In addition to the interactive aspect of this Summer Emergent Reader, I have also included a set of matching pocket chart cards! Of course these can be used in a multitude of ways, such as at your word wall or print them off twice for a fun game of Memory!

Classroom Decor - Printables

7.12.2016
Sure, we're in the midst of summer break here in North America, but I can tell you that us teachers still have our classrooms in our minds. More specifically, we're already thinking and preparing for back to school!
Even though I find the whole "back to school" time super crazy, I have to say I LOVE it! The best part for me, aside from meeting all my new kiddos is setting up my classroom environment. I decided this year I'm going to run with a lime-green and pink theme, so I started putting together some printable resources that I'll be using throughout the year - and of course you can use them, too!

First off, I made this sweet little "I CAN WRITE" banner - I'm going to print it off, laminate it, add punch holes and string pretty ribbon through it. I love it and I can't wait to get it all put together!
Source
Of course right after I made that banner file, I had to get started on the next - we teachers sure love matching our decor items, am I right?! So I then went on to creating a similar file for my reading wall - it reads "I CAN READ" and just like the above banner, I can't wait to get this up in my room!

What do you think? I will be making  more banners for my room in this cute lime-green and pink pencil theme - and I for one, am super excited!

Are you already thinking of returning back to school? When does school start for you?

Year Long Writing Prompts

1.11.2016
Every primary teacher understands the importance of their students developing good writing skills. While it is sometimes a daunting task to have your students journal, I have come up with a weekly writing portfolio that my students actually LOVE and always look forward to!  It's geared towards kindergarten to fourth grade students.

Weekly Writing Portfolio (40 Prompts)
The weekly writing portfolio system that I've developed works really well for both me AND my class. Each student is given a duo-tang or binder with 40 writing prompts (40 pages = 1 page per week) and on Writing Wednesdays they independently complete their writing assignment.

Weekly Writing Portfolio (40 Prompts)
Above is a sample of what the journal pages look like - and as you can see, there is a journal prompt at the top, followed by space to illustrate their thoughts and finally a writer's checklist at the bottom for self-editing.

Weekly Writing Portfolio (40 Prompts)
I have also included two different sized binder spine labels and a cover page for each duo-tang...plus  a teacher's checklist so you know which prompts you have used. It's a snap to prepare and can be used year after year with excellent results!

Product Details:

► 40 prompts suitable for kindergarten to fourth grade students ‣ 1 prompt per page (my students complete 1 prompt per week)

► Each page has a space for writing as well as a space for drawing a picture

► Each page also has a space for checking their work ‣ students must check off the boxes at the bottom of each page for Capitals, Spacing and Punctuation.

► Includes a 2-page teacher checklist of all 40 weekly prompts. Simply check off the prompts as you go (if you're obsessed with organization like I am)

► Fantastic tool for year long assessments

► Individual pages can be displayed at your writing centre or handed out as needed

► Can be printed on both sides to save paper

► Portfolios can be bound together with staples or 3-ring binders with plastic sleeves on the front (this is what I prefer because it is the most durable)

► Spine labels can be printed onto colored paper and students (or you) can write their names before "Writing Portfolio" for fast recognition. Here's a tip for easy insertion of the spine labels: print on cardstock - they slide in without bunching up :)

► Buy this product once and use year after year! I have not written any dates on this product, so it is suitable for years to come :)

Learning Opportunities:

► Creative writing skills

► Opinion writing skills

► Spelling skills

Increased vocabulary

► Fine motor development

► Sense of autonomy/independence

► Public speaking practice (if work is presented)

► Sense of accomplishment and pride
